A Guyana-bound Caribbean Airlines flight was early Friday morning forced to make an emergency landing on the northern Caribbean island of Bermuda.

The passengers only arrived home early Saturday morning. It was not immediately clear whether the same plane was repaired and given the green-light to proceed to Trinidad and then Guyana.

The decision to land at the airport on Bermuda, a British Overseas Territory, followed what appeared to be smoke in the cabin, a source said. The flight departed New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport early Friday morning.

“It had to make an emergency landing in Bermuda due to smoke in the cabin; all passengers were placed in a hotel. No injury was reported,” said one source familiar with the flight.
