Assistant Commissioner (retd) George Vyphuis, DSM

Assistant Commissioner George Vyphuis on Wednesday emphasised the importance of the police working with the public as he ended a 35-year career in the Guyana Police Force.

Speaking during a farewell parade at Police Headquarters, Eve Leary, Vyphuis noted that he always had a close relationship with the civilian population.

“During my career I had a very strong connection with the public. I believe that without the business community, without the people out there who pay taxes so we could receive our salaries, without them we are nowhere, we must work in partnership. Through the public relations I established bridges, bridges that united the Guyana Police and the public,” he stated.

Vyphuis noted to applause that it was through his partnership with the public that the force was able to benefit from several initiatives.

Meanwhile, he also called on members of the force to study and understand their respective roles as the force looks to modernise.

“I am positive that under the new Commissioner (acting) and the officers who are around, they have the capability for moving the strategic plan and making the modernisation work.

“I also wish to call on the junior ranks to display a high level of honesty, trust, respect and let courtesy be the hallmark of passion to serve the public,” Vyphuis said.

The acting commissioner thanked his family for their support during his career and graciously acknowledged the role the media played.

Vyphuis’ last posting was Commander of “A” Division.
