Three men accused of breaking and entering a Water Street store and stealing more than GUY$2 million worth of items were Monday refused bail.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry, the trio pleaded not guilty to committing the offence at the store owned by Harish Baxani between March 26 and March 27, 2014. Bail was refused and they were remanded to prison until their next court appearance on April 13.

They are 21-year old labourer Joshua Meredith of 34 Queen Street, South Cummingburg,; Dennis Downer, 24, a vendor of 12 A Rosemary Lane; Dellon Halley of 13 A Water and Holmes Streets, Georgetown.

They are accused of committing the offences at Baxani’s store. They alllegedly several television sets, one microwave and one speaker box together valued GUY$2.514 million.

Police Prosecutor Michael Grant, said Baxani secured his store on n March 26 but by 3:30 AM the following day he was infomed by telephone that his store had been broken into

Grant said when the police arrived , the three men were seen and they were pursued to  house where they hid and in which they had already secured the stolen items.

Defence Lawyer, Paul Fung-a-Fat was unsuccessful in securing bail for the trio. The prosecution opposed bail on, among other grounds, that they have previous charges before the court.

Prosecutor Grant also informed the court that investigations were continuing and the men could be charged with committing a similar offence at the same store.
