A man accused of breaking in to the Brickdam Police Station’s Mess Hall and also spending GUY$500 a constable had given him to buy a phone card was Friday convicted.

Police accused Leon Faria of breaking and entering the Brickdam Police Station, and fraudulent conversion.

Prosecutor Dinero Jones said that on March 5 about 8 PM, the Mess Hall was secured but by 12:10 AM on March 6, police caught Faria climbing on a pipe in the canteen area. Investigators found that a wooden bar was removed and a window leading to the Mess Hall was prised open.

The 34-year old man of Leopold Street, Werk-en-Rust pleaded guilty to breaking and entering the Station’s Mess Hall and he was sentenced to two years imprisonment for that offence.

Faria told the court that he repaid Constable Kenrick Hodge the GUY$500 dollars that was given to him on February 23 to buy the card. The prosecutor denied that the money was repaid.

City Magistrate, Ann Mc Lennan fined him GUY$25,000 or four weeks imprisonment for the fraudulent conversion charge. She said the four weeks would concurrently with the two years for the felony if he cannot pay the fine.
