Less than one month after resigning as Local Government Minister, Ganga Persaud has already picked up a job, though short term, at the Ministry of Health, according to well-placed sources.

Persaud is the Coordinator of a three-month survey on Behavioural Change for the National AIDS Programme Secretariat which comes under the Health Ministry.

He was one of the senior lead functionaries at a NAPS workshop held at Grand Coastal Hotel, Le Resouvenir, East Coast Demerara last week.

Word of Persaud’s employment came late Monday, hours after Peoples Progressive Party (PPP) General Secretary Clement Rohee announced that steps would be taken to fill the ministerial vacancy.

Rohee also told reporters that Persaud has voluntarily decided not to return to sittings of the 65-seat National Assembly. It was not immediately clear whether he would eventually return, resign or allow his seat to be escheated.

Persaud has resigned citing personal reasons. However, Rohee has said that the government decided to sever ministerial relations with that Central Committee member.
