Updated: Five arrested for killing witness in murder trial

A security guard, who is a key witness in a murder trial, was fatally shot to his head at the Cane Field Nursery School, East Canje, Berbice.

Kenneth “Puri” Kanhai’s lifeless body was found on a desk near a pool of blood on the floor as a result of gunshot wounds to his forehead and other parts of his body.

Police said they have arrested five persons in connection with the killing of the 56-year old man who was employed with Home Safe Security Service. He lived at Gangaram Settlement.

He was slated to testify for the prosecution in the High Court murder trial of Ramdhanie “Prakash /Prak” Persaud. He is accused of murdering his reputed wife, Bibi Shameena Deen, on 20th March, 2012.

Kanhai was previously charged with receiving, comforting and harbouring, assisting and mentoring Persaud.

Police had gone to a farm owned by Persaud where they had found one handgun, one shotgun and ammunition. Kanhai had told police that the then murder suspect had hid the weapon at the farm located at New Forest, East Canje.
