The man, who allegedly shot dead a policeman Friday night, had one day earlier allegedly stolen a gun from a security guard in Sophia, police said.

The policeman who was shot dead at Guyhoc Park about 11:30 PM has been identified as Constable 14127 Quincy Wright of Zeskendren, Mahaicony, East Coast Demerara.

He was allegedly involved in argument with a man over a woman with whom they had been both having a relationship.

Police said the assailant was wanted in connection with the theft of a gun from Trevor Fraser, a private security guard in North Sophia about 9 PM Thursday. After taking away the .38 revolver belonging to Strategic Alliance Security, the man fired three shots and another guard, Mortimer Maynard, was struck to his thigh.

Police said Fraser, who was posted on duty at the National Cultural Centre, had called Maynard for them to go into Sophia to purchase food.
