Large group of Venezuelans convicted for illegal entry

Ten Venezuelans were Tuesday fined a total of GUY$300,000 for illegally entering Guyana by sea.

They pleaded guilty to entering the country and disembarked without the consent of an immigration officer at Charity, Essequibo on January 18.

Chief Magistrate, Priya Sewnarine-Beharry fined each of them GUY$30,000 with an alternative of two weeks imprisonment.

Those convicted are Kenedy Jose Manjanito, Vences Elizabeth Mohamed, Jhon Kendel Majamito, Juan Esleban Diaj, Juis Orlando Callejas, Jesus Farrota Martinez, Hernando Ramirej Flores, Oscar Jarojona Martinez, Bertha Rodriquez De Ohonas and James Jrisna Peinado.

Defence Lawyer, Jerome Khan told the court that Kenedy Jose Majanito and the others were issued Guyanese visas in Venezuela. Khan said that after they entered Guyana their passports were not stamped and they were deemed illegal citizens.
