Updated: Mechanic’s operations destroyed in early morning fire

No one lived in the rickety wooden building that was due to be demolished by its new owner very shortly.

A two-flat building immediately south of the burnt building, which houses the medical practice of Dr. Gansham Singh, was scorched by the early morning blaze.

The now destroyed building was used by Tajimey “Chappy” Drepaul as a base for his mechanic services. He told Demerara Waves Online News that he lost at least GUY$500,000 in tools and spares. A vehicle that was nearby for repairs was slightly damaged.

Drepaul and another man said that last Saturday someone attempted to burn the building from the back but a boy saw it and raised an alarm. ‘

The new owner, Mr. Bobb (only name) did not offer much about why he thought the building might have been targeted.
