Bandits commit robbery at Western Union, Harbour Bridge Mall

The back entrance of the Harbour Bridge mall through which the three bandits escaped after robbing customers at the Western Union Bill Express branch there.

Three armed bandits Monday afternoon committed an armed robbery at the Western Union branch at Harbour Bridge Mall, East Bank Demerara.

At least 10 customers who were inside transacting business were ordered to lay face down on the floor while they were stripped of their valuables. Items stolen included cash, phones and jewellery. One of the victims said the bandits were in the line pretending to be customers before they staged the daring robbery.

“I just walk in the Western union to do a transaction after waiting for a minute one of them was behind me shouted everybody gimme all that u have and ordered us to lay on the floor and then two more added bandits surfaced with the other one and started to ransack everyone pocket and ordered us to hard over our money and phones chains bands rings etc,” said Winston Miller Jr. who just arrived from New York and had gone to collect money.winston millerjr Police sources said lawmen were pursuing the robbers who escaped through a back entrance of the mall’s compound.

An official of the Western Union Bill Express head office in Guyana said she was informed about the robbery.

It was not immediately clear whether the branch, operated by an agent, was also robbed.

That branch is operated by C & F Supermarket under an agency agreement.
