A Venezuelan man was Friday arraigned on a charge of being in illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition after a Guyanese man alleged that the foreigner pulled a gun on him during an argument.

Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry remanded Joel Pereira-Rodriguez to prison until December 11 when he would be sentenced.

Pereira admitted that he was in possession of one .38 snub-nose revolver on December 3, 2013 while not being the holder of a firearm licence. He, however, denied pointing the gun at anyone and said that it had no ammunition at the time.

The short facts of the case are that Rodriguez was in his boat at Aurora Backdam when John Gobin approached him for GUY$35,000 that he owed him.

Police alleged that Rodriguez at that stage pulled out a handgun and pointed it in Gobin’s direction.

A report was made to the police and a search was conducted on the person of Rodriguez and the revolver was found in his right side pants pocket.

but did not have any ammunition nor did he point the firearm in anyone’s direction.
The matter was adjourned to December 11 for sentencing.
