Youths on several armed robbery, larceny charges

Two West Ruimveldt youths were Thursday arraigned for allegedly stealing almost GUY$600,000 in cash and items during armed robberies.

They are 21-year old Travis Payne of 461 West Ruimveldt and 18-year old Nicholas Layne of 59 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Two young men were today remanded to prison until December 16 after they appeared in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry to and pleaded not guilty to several charged against them.

Police said, armed with a gun, they together robbed Cordelle Porter of one Blackberry cell phone valued GUY$50,000 and Celiene Vanveer of one laptop valued GUY$80,000.

Payne and Layne are also accused of breaking and entering Rashad Reid’s dwelling house on October 21 at West Ruimveldt and stealing electronic items valued at GUY$192,000. They also alleged broke and entered Shondellu Serrao’s dwelling at West Ruimveldt on October 28 and carted off a quantity of items valued GUY$65,000.

Payne was charged separately with two counts of armed robbery to which he pleaded not guilty. The first is that on June 1 at East Ruimveldt he robbed Carlotta John of one gold chain valued GUY$140,000. Payne on November 1 allegedly used an ice-pick and robbed Rawle Robinson of GUY$72,000.
