GPHC CEO Michael Khan

The Chief Executive Officer of the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), Michael Khan is back on the job less than one week after he was sent on vacation leave by the Board.

Khan was ordered to take his 60 days accumulated vacation on Friday November 15 but over the weekend he was told to resume duty on Monday November 18.

Public Service Minister Dr. Jennifer Westford, who is acting Health Minister, said she told Khan to return to work after she found that he had grounds in a protest letter that he had dispatched to her.

“I was informed that he was sent on vacation leave which he protested because he said he did not request leave and he sent a protest-letter to my office,” she told Demerara Waves Online News.

Westford said she then told the Chairman of the GPHC Board, Nirmal Rekha that he could not have sent him on his vacation leave. “If there is any reason that they would like to send the CEO leave if there is an investigation it has to be done differently,” she said.

The Minister said the Board has the option to send Khan on administrative leave.
