Three policemen were among seven persons still in custody on Monday in connection with a massive heist of gold and cash from a mining company in Port Kaituma, police said.

Deputy Police Commissioner Seelall Persaud also told Demerara Waves Online News that all of the undisclosed amount of gold and cash has been recovered. All the gold have been found in Port Kaituma and amounts of cash from places in Berbice and Charity, Pomeroon.

Persaud said the manager of El Dorado Gold Company appeared to be the major culprit. However, the lawmen allegedly conspired to fabricate a report that there was a robbery.

Other sources told Demerara Waves Online News (www.demwaves.com) that a speedboat operator confessed to investigators that he was paid GUY$4 million to transport the gold.

Police are expected to seek the advice of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to determine who must be charged with the heist that occurred on Friday.

The owner of the gold exportation company was due to check his records to determine exactly how much gold and cash were stolen.

However, sources have estimated that at least 100 ounces of gold might have been grabbed from the company.
