Alleged paint, sheep and milk thieves in court

The Georgetown Magistrates’ court was Wednesday abuzz with persons answering charges for the alleged theft of milk powder, a ram and paint.

A woman succeeded in getting her cocaine-addicted father charged for allegedly stealing three gallons of paint valued at GUY$16,500.

Vanessa Sealey alleged that her father, Orin Van De Cruz Chester stole the paint on November 5 at their North Ruimveldt residence.

Chester was granted GUY$30,000 and ordered to return to court on November 18 when he appeared before City Magistrate Fabayo Azore.

Said to be a known drug addict, the man admitted to stealing the paint  but said he wanted money to buy food. The court was told that he habitually steals from his daughter but she often pardons him.                                

59-year old Brenda Beaton of Victoria Road, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara – described as a known shoplifter- pleaded not guilty to stealing one tin of Milex milk from Bounty Supermarket, Water Street on November 2.

Magistrate Azore granted the woman GUY$25,000 bail and ordered that she return to court on November 20. The prosecution did not object to bail.

The court was told that the woman picked up the milk valued GUY$5,452 and put it under skirt. While leaving the supermarket, she was stopped by the guard and the product fell from under skirt.

A man, who allegedly stole one ram and sold it for GUY$10,000 was granted GUY$150,00 bail.

Orlando Wilson of Independence Boulevard, La Penitence now has to return to court on November 13. Police said he stole the sheep valued GUY$80,000 from Surendra Mahadeo on November 3 about 6:30 AM.

Police Prosecutor Ramsahoye Rambaju told the court that Mahadeo took a flock of 12 sheep to graze. Four hours later, his son checked and realized that the ram was missing. When police confronted Wilson based on a report, he aallegedly admitted to stealing the animal.
