Junior Finance Minister, Juan Edghill on Thursday confirmed that he was involved in a vehicular accident earlier in the day.

“We are all grateful to be alive.  It was an unfortunate incident that could have been fatal, but we believe we experienced divine protection,” said Edghill, a Pentecostal Bishop.

He did not give details about the accident but sources said the vehicle that he and two State media personnel were travelling in skidded and flipped a number of times on a road in Aroaima.

Eyewitnesses at the Ogle International Airport said Edghill was seen walking with a limp shortly after deplaning there from the bauxite mining community.

Head of the Presidential Secretariat, Dr. Roger Luncheon appeared surprised when he was asked about Edghill’s condition. He then said that none of the occupants of the vehicle was injured. “…got a few aches and pains. I think if your car turns over two or three times, you’re qualified to have two or three aches and pains,” said Luncheon.

A cameraman from the National Communications Network (NCN) and a staff member of the Government Information Agency (GINA) were accompanying Edghill on his outreach to communities in the Upper Demerara River area when the mishap occurred.

Edghill thanked the Bauxite Company of Guyana Incorporated for rendering assistance and assistance and medical attention provided by the Office of the President and the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).

The Junior Finance Minister expressed heartfelt gratitude and appreciation for all of their thoughts, prayers and good wishes.
