Several arrested for deadly Corentyne robbery

Six persons were Tuesday morning arrested in connection with a deadly home invasion Monday evening at the home of a Corentyne businessman, police said in a statement.

Investigators confirmed that 34-year old Davendra “Dave” Deodat of 72 Hampshire Squatting Area was shot and killed during a robbery.

They carted off GUY$560,000.00, one gold band, a laptop computer and one cell phone.  

Deodat owned a fleet of trucks branded “Cool Runnings”. His wife was chopped to her head. Rafeek Abdul, 47, of Lot 63 Williamsburg, Corentyne suffered injuries.

“Investigations revealed that the perpetrators entered the premises when they were confronted by Davendra’s daughter who raised an alarm. Davendra intervened and was shot to his chest, while Abdul who arrived at the home on a visit was also shot to his left hand and abdomen by the perpetrators while escaping,”  police said in a statement.

Rafeek was referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and admitted.
