A major crackdown on a criminal network on the Essequibo Islands and West Coast Demerara continued overnight and several persons have confessed to a robbery-murder and armed robbery, police said.

Deputy Police Commissioner, Seelall Persaud said a wanted bulletin would be issued for the suspected mastermind who fled into a cemetery at Meten Meer Zorg, West Coast Demerara and vanished Monday morning. He is on court bail for several offences.

The Chief of Criminal Investigations said two persons were arrested overnight Monday. “It is a network. There are known characters from Georgetown and persons from West Demerara including boat owners and operators from Parika,” he said.

Persaud said several of those arrested have confessed to the September 7 armed robbery and shooting at Rohan “Anand” Dhanaysure’s residence at Wakenaam and the shooting death of 27-year old Zulfikar “Vicky” Golzar Namdar on September 11 inside his shop at Meten-Meer-Zorg

Evidence so far, he said, points to 11 persons being involved in the robbery-murder at Meten-Meer-Zorg and 10 in the attack at Wakenaam in which Dhanaysure was shot to his right shoulder and his daughter and her boyfriend battered and robbed.

Persaud, however, noted that additional persons played supporting roles in both robberies.

Namdar was attacked and a bag containing important documents and GUY$1 million was snatched from his mother in what appeared to have been a planned robbery.

“It’s clear now that from the evidence, the motive for Meten-Meer-Zorg was robbery. Monies were received by the deceased father and that info was leaked through persons who are around the son,” he said. Namdar’s father has said that he normally has a lot of money associated with his role as head of a nearby Muslim School and the Regional Vice President of the Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG).

A total of 15 persons were arrested Monday on the West Coast Demerara, one killed and two 9 MM handguns were recovered.

The dead man has been identified as Kirk Bacchus of Paradise Village, East Coast Demerara.

Police said around 10 AM Monday, they acted on information and intercepted two cars with several men at Kastev Housing Scheme. Police alleged that two of the four men, who exited the cars, had handguns drawn. The lawmen said when they confronted them, the men discharged a number of rounds.

Police returned fire, killing Kirk Bacchus of Paradise Village, East Coast Demerara.
