A school on the West Bank Demerara was early Wednesday morning badly damaged by fire.

The fire destroyed the offices, Home Economics Department and the Auditorium of  the L’ Adventure Secondary School, Canal Number One. No one was reported injured. The Headmistress, Althea Daniels-Stuart, confirmed that vital school records have been destroyed.

Daniels-Stuart, disputed an earlier claim by the Fire Chief, Marlon Gentle that she had smelt smoke and had thought it was garbage burning. She said she was no where around the building when the blaze started.

The Headmistress said efforts would be made to accommodate the almost 700 students as best as possible.

The first detachment of fire fighters arrived on the scene shortly after 8 AM.
