Miss World Guyana Ruqayyah Boyer was presented with the award by NYC Councilman Ruben Wills.

Miss World Guyana Ruqayyah Boyer has received a Citation Award from the City of New York for her work to combat domestic violence and bullying through the Caribbean American Domestic Violence Association.

She was presented with the award by Councilman Ruben Wills at a recent fundraising event in her honour in New York.

Wills commended Boyer for taking an international stand against both issues particularly highlighting how bullying was often a precursor to domestic violence.

He spoke to the small gathering on the importance of dealing with these issues as well as encouraging young people to stand up and speak out. The city official encouraged Boyer to continue her campaign and to be an inspiration and role model to others.

Wills said his budget had $20,000 allocated specifically to Domestic Violence and Bullying of which he would like to see it depleted to zero in the fight against these causes. He invited Miss World Guyana to aid in the fight against the issue by taking advantage of the money allocated to further her campaign needs.

Boyer is heading to Indonesia to represent Guyana at the Miss World Pageant where she will compete against 129 other women.
