Updated: Airport taxi driver dies in collision

A taxi driver attached to the Cheddi Jagan International Airport died Monday morning when he lost control of his car and slammed into a sand-laden truck.

Preliminary information is that 42-year old Sooklall “Blinky’ Roopnarine lost control of the car,HB 8254, resulting in the accident at Land of Canaan, East Bank Demerara around 7:30 AM.  He was returning to the airport and the truck was heading north.

On colliding with the truck,GJJ 7750, the car pitched across on the other side of the road.

Blinky worked as an airport taxi driver for several years.

Police said that the driver of the motor lorry is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
