One person has died and two others are seriously injured following an accident on the trail to Lethem, reports say.

The dead man has been identified as 26-year old Trevon Morris, a contract worker attached to the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T), who lived at ‘B’ Field, Sophia. The injured are 37-year old Jermaine Prince, who was the driver, and 40-year old Lawrence Harris- both full-time employees of the phone company.

They sustained serious injuries to their head, spine and limbs in the accident that occured about 10:25 AM at 58 Miles, Mabura, eyewitnesses said.

The body of the dead man and the injured men were air-dashed to the city shortly after 4 PM Tuesday.

“Morris died at the scene of the accident while Prince and Harris were air-dashed to Ogle International Airport this afternoon and are receiving medical attention at a city hospital,” the phone company said in a statement.

The men were heading to Lethem on work-related business.

Police late Tuesday night said that investigations have revealed that Morris and Harris of Waterloo Street, Georgetown, were in motor vehicle PJJ 571 driven by Prince of Oronoque Street, Georgetown, when the driver lost control of the vehicle which turned turtle, resulting in injuries to all three occupants.

Morris was pronounced dead on arrival at the Mabura Health Centre, while Harris and Prince were airdashed out to Georgetown.

GT&T says it extends deepest condolences to the family of Mr. Morris and will ensure the injured staff are given every available medical support to aid recovery.
