Guyana-born Canadian jailed for cocaine trafficking

A Guyana-born Canadian on Friday pleaded guilty to being in possession of a quantity of cocaine shortly before he was about to board a Toronto-bound flight.

41-year old Johall Abram Manget, who was unrepresented, was sentenced to three years imprisonment plus fined GUY$30,000.

He admitted to being in possession of 2 kilogrammes, 615 grammes of cocaine on Tuesday, June 4 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport.

The narcotic was found in the suitcase of the man whose local address was given as 46 East La Penitence, Georgetown.

Investigators said the man, who was a frequent flyer, had been under surveillance for some time now.

Members of the Police Narcotics Branch arrested Manget after a suspicious object was seen in his suitcase through the scanner.
