Two bandits are in police custody following quick work by the lawmen with assistance from taxi drivers who came to the aid of one of their colleagues late Thursday night.

Reports reaching Demerara Waves Online News stated that three men boarded HC 1720 driven by Elvis Alert at Stabroek and proceeded to Tucville where one of them disembarked. Albert was then told to drive to Cane View Avenue, South Ruimveldt Gardens where one of the remaining men pulled a handgun and ordered him out of the vehicle a little before midnight.

DemWaves was told that a regular customer of the taxi service saw when Albert was bundled from the car and she alerted the taxi base and a passing police patrol. According to one of the service’s drivers, the dispatcher alerted the others and the police at Sparendaam and a search got underway.

The vehicle was finally spotted and a high speed chase ensued with taxi drivers and the police in pursuit of the bandits.

The carjackers eventually lost control of the vehicle in the Cumming’s Lodge area and ran overboard with the police arriving right after to arrest one man. But Albert told them that there had been two men and a search revealed the second man lying flat in the mud in an attempt to hide.

A .38 revolver was reportedly recovered at the scene and the duo was taken to the Turkeyen Police Station.
