President Donald Ramotar and First Lady, Deolatchmie Ramotar.

The opposition A Partnership for National Unity (APNU) proposes to cut the Office of the First Lady’s budget because it does not know what the office does.

APNU Shadow Finance Minister, Carl Greenidge said the National Assembly could very well cut the GUY$10 million that have been allocated under the Office of the President for the Office of the First Lady.

“We saw it and I think first we would like to see a definition of the role- what is it she is trying to do, what is it this First Lady supposed to do and, therefore, what are the requirements of an office,” he told DemWaves (www.demwaves.com).

He said much depended on an explanation that would be provided by the government.

Mrs. Deolatchmie Ramotar is Guyana’s First Lady. Since her husband’s accession to office, she has been accompanying him on several overseas official visits, delivering speeches and messages and presenting gifts on some occasions.
