A North Ruimveldt man Friday night escaped death by the narrowest of margins after being shot to the head.

Desmond Marcus, 49, is a patient at the Georgetown Public Hospital with a bullet lodged in his scalp, Demerara Waves Online News has learnt.

The man is said to be conscious and in no danger from the wound.

Early reports indicate that Marcus was working as a conductor on a minibus when a passenger exited the vehicle without paying. Upon being confronted the man reportedly whipped out a handgun and shot Marcus before fleeing the scene. A subsequent police release identified Marcus as the driver of the bus and that he had been shot to the left side of his face.

The police said the male passenger had paid short fare after getting off the Route 41 bus and that was the cause of the argument.

The shooter remains at large.
