Guyana's President possibly worried about likely US posture post-elections - Black political activist PDF Print E-mail
Sunday, 21 March 2010 07:42

Guyana's President possibly worried about likely US posture post-elections - Black political activistTacuma Ogunseye, a a veteran political activist of the Working Peoples Alliance (WPA) and Black activist of the African Cultural Development Association (ACDA), says President Bharrat Jagdeo appears worried about the United States (US) likely posture against him after he leaves office.

Ogunseye also justified the emergence of gunmen's attack on police as a direct reaction to extra-judicial killings by the law enforcement agents.

He also discussed the opposition Peoples National Congress Reform and the Alliance For Change's posture towards Local Government Elections, saying that all signs point to them not contesting the polls unless there are reforms. Still on the political front, he does not believe that the President is serious about closer political cooperation with the opposition because, according to Ogunseye, the PPP will first have to agree to such a move.

Mr. Jagdeo has been repeatedly  hasrhly critical of the United States annual assessments of Guyana's fight against narco-trafficking, saying that Washington is the largest user of narcotics.

In an address to commemorate the life and death of late Presidents Cheddi and Janet Jagan at Babu John, Port Mourant, East Berbice; the Guyanese leader noted that his country has done more to combat drugs than the US such as conducting lie-detection tests on all its anti-drug agents and fired those who failed.

He also said that the US would not be allowed to dictate Guyana's foreign policy in areas such as closer relations with Iran which will be helping the South American country map its mineral resources and train medical specialists.

But Ogunseye, who repeated alleged links between the government and drug lords, contended that Jagdeo was criticizing the US to set the stage for an excuse about likely US posture against him after he leaves office in 2011. Jagdeo is constitutionally barred from running for a third consecutive term.

Repeatedly asked where was the evidence linking the Guyana government to drug lords, Ogunseye said the Western nations were provided with that information.

He cited compromised and slothful judicial and police authorities as major reasons why the opposition has not gone to court to test its allegations of the government being linked to drug lords and death squads.

Ogunseye also addressed the killing of innocent people in villages such as Annandale and Enterprise, neighbouring to Buxton- a one-time hideout of heavily armed gangs.

Where was the evidence. Why was Clement Rohee's visa revoked. Where was the evidence that the PNC would give arms to terrorist if they won the elction. Did you ask Bharat Jagdeo for this evidence.

You call Tacuma a black activist in a hypocritical and amnesiac ignoring of the fact that he received permanent injury fighting against what you describe as a black Government. Demerarawaves has shown its hand over and over, and no amount of obfuscation will conceal its affiliation.

Jagdeo must be justifiably worried about what his life will be after he demits office. Just look at his profile as the president of this country! Look at the level of moral, political and structural degeneracy that has transpired on his watch. I clearly remember saying in an interview on CNS in the presence of Aubrey Northon and Manzoor Nadir just after he was elevated to the Presidency that he would destroy himself by the end of his tenure. I was right ! Just check the tapes....I am sure that we can find them in the archives...

I do think the US should clean up their own act with in their borders on drugs they have all that is required to do the technology, the resources amd the trained man power too> the Demand and apitite is very much so for drugs with in the USA. The US should not insist on very poor neighbours to spend their meager resources on drugs smuglers they can only do so much,The US border Guards and costoms must be very laxed in allowing the drugs to enter their country, The Air line Co should be more rigirous in their checking in procedure and not expect some one else to do their Job for them while they Rake in the proffit,I do really think the US should and can do much more.Thank you

This is all conjecture at this stage, a meaningless assessment. To soon to speculate.
