Two acres of marijuana with at least 3,000 plants at Yarrowkabra, Soesdyke-Linden Highway were destroyed by police today.
Police spokesman, Ivelaw Whittaker said the marijuana plants ranged from three to six feet, and there were at least 5,000 seedlings.
A camp was found with a hammock, clothing, foodstuff, garden tools and cooking utensils within the dense vegetation. No one was arrested and the marijuana field, nursery and camp were destroyed, police said.
Police have in recent months been cracking down on marijuana cultivation in Berbice, the Soesdyke-Linden Highway and other parts of the country.
Cocaine trafficking from neighbouring South American countries, however, appears to be the major drug-trafficking problem facing the security agencies.
Mainly cocaine continues to be seized at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri where government believes only 10 percent is intercepted.
The remainder, according to government, appears to be leaving Guyana through collusion among people working at the airport.
