An early Sunday morning fire at Number 67 Village Corentyne destroyed a wooden house, leaving a family of five homeless.
Fire officials told Demerara Waves that the fire started around 1:55 am when an unattended kerosene stove ignited on some nearby combustible materials.
Rendered homeless are Gobin "Anand" Balram,30, his common-law wife Velma and their two children- three-year old Vickash and five-year old Videsh.
Gobin's mother, Gladys Sookdeo told Demerara Waves that police Sunday afternoon asked them to report to the station for questioning. She was unable to say where her son and his family now that their house has been destroyed. Sookdeo did not live in the now burnt house.
The fire officials said that by the time the water-tenders arrived on the scene the 12 square-foot house was already destroyed.
No one was injured, fire officials said.
This latest fire is believed to be the eight recorded blaze in the country for the year.
