Two men were Tuesday arraigned for allegedly bribing a constable at the Brickdam Police Station to release one of their sons from custody after he was accused of being in illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition.

Kamendra Raghubeer of 171 ‘C’ Field, Sophia and 24-year old Anil Persaud of Ramsingh Street, Sophia pleaded not guilty and were released on GYD$200,000 bail each by Chief Magistrate, Ann Mc Lennan.

They are accused of corruptly giving Police Constable, Gerald Rodrigues GYD$500,000 on May 12, 2017 as inducement to release 19-year old Michael Raghubeer from police custody, an act in relation to his principal duties.

Michael Raghubeer, who was earlier held allegedly with a gun and ammunition in his possession, is the son of Kamendra Ragubeer.

Police Prosecutor Arwyn Moore told the court that the defendants acted in consort. He is one of two suspects, who had escaped from police, dropping their firearm in the process.

Michael was later caught and arrested when his father, Kamendra Raghubeer, was busted in a sting operation, bribing the policeman.

The defendants were each released on $200,000 bail and ordered to report to the Criminal Investigations Department at the Brickdam Police Station until the determination of the matter.
