A woman has been detained by Guyanese police after she was found to be carrying US$44,688, the Guyana Police Force said.

Agents of the force’s Special Organised Crime Unit (SOCU) said the woman “failed to declare” the foreign currency on arrival at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport at bout 8 O’clock Thursday night.

Police did not disclose the identity of the woman, but said she is 36 years old and lives at South Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Guyanese law requires a declaration of US$10,000 or more found in the possession of persons.
