MURDER ACCUSED: Jainarine “Payo” Balgobin.

The Corentyne man, who almost beheaded a woman and placed the blood-dripping cutlass at a Hindu altar, was Monday remanded to prison a charge of murder.

Jainarine “Payo” Balgobin, 39, was not required to plea to the indictable charge when it was read to him by New Amsterdam Magistrate, Alex Moore.
Police said the Albion Estate labourer last week Wednesday, November 2, 2016 almost hacked off  the neck of 53-year old Bhumattie Delall of Belvedere, Corentyne while she was standing in her yard.
Moore remanded the man to prison until December 12, 2016 when he will appear at the Albion Magistrates’ Court.
He allegedly crossed over the road from his  residence to Delall’s and chopped her neck several times, almost severing it.
A preliminary inquiry would have to be held to determine whether  there is sufficient evidence to face trial in the High Court by a judge and jury.
Investigators were told that after the man committed the crime, he took the cutlass and placed it on the altar of a nearby mandir. He was also seen holding up a murti at the Hindu place of worship.
Balgobin was later restrained by a relative until police arrived on the scene, arrested and charged him.

DEAD: Bhumattie Delall.

Neighbours and relatives have said that Balgobin is mentally unstable and only Delall had had the ability to calm him down.
