A money changer was Sunday afternoon shot and robbed while dining with his companion at city fast food outlet, police confirmed.

Police said 32-year old Vishwanauth “Vishal” Nowbat of ‘C’ Field, Sophia, East Coast Demerara was shot to his abdomen while seated at PopEye’s, Water and America Streets at about 4:15 PM. “The suspect approached and demanded he handed over his day’s earnings, to which he refused. His companion was not injured.

The assailant also escaped with a bag containing an undisclosed sum of cash.
