Money changer shot, robbed while dining at fast food outlet

A money changer was Sunday afternoon shot and robbed while dining with his companion at city fast food outlet, police confirmed.

Police said 32-year old Vishwanauth “Vishal” Nowbat of ‘C’ Field, Sophia, East Coast Demerara was shot to his abdomen while seated at PopEye’s, Water and America Streets at about 4:15 PM. “The suspect approached and demanded he handed over his day’s earnings, to which he refused. As a result, the suspect, whipped out a handgun and shot the victim once to his left side abdomen and escaped,” the Guyana Police Force said in a statement.

His companion was not injured.

The assailant also escaped with a bag containing an undisclosed sum of cash.

Police said the perpetrator is “identifiable” but he has not yet been arrested.

Nowbat was rushed by public spirited citizens to the Georgetown Hospital where he was undergoing emergency surgery.

Doesn’t the fact that the perp is ‘identifiable’ mean that gun-toting and otherwise armed criminals are now barefaced and unafraid? Maybe there is a sense of resignation? Maybe it is the new normal?

Double jeopardy… eating at Pop Eye’s and walking around with bundles of cash in Guyana.. wishing him well….Crime is reportedly down with all the illegal weapons collected and safely stored in Jhattie’s colon…. this is just a statistical outlier…

Smarter the government… wiser the population..the up and coming defense after removal of legal weapons will provide more attrition of criminals…there are many home made remedies..

B… it is the police doing the hustle boy…the entire Guyana is vulnerable…them police are useless…
