Jagdeo tells Granger it’s time for “mother of all inquiries”

Opposition Leader, Bharrat Jagdeo on Friday challenged President David Granger to bring on the mother of all inquiries into periods of violence in Guyana.

“We should do the mother of all inquiries and then examine the role of individuals in that period,”  the former Guyanese leader said in debating President David Granger’s latest address to the Parliament.

Quoting a section of a book by Working People’s Alliance (WPA) co-founder, Eusi Kwayana, Jagdeo said the People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) was involved in the violent crime spree by heavily armed gangs in Buxton from 2002 to about 2008. “There are many other views but APNU or PNC does not come out well. In fact they were a contributor,” said Jagdeo.

President Granger, in and out of office, has promised that a probe would be held into extra-judicial killings.

Touching on the 4 million pound sterling Security Sector Reform Programme (SSRP) that should have been funded by the United Kingdom government, Jagdeo said he scrapped the deal because there had been problems with local ownership. He also said his administration had been opposed to British soldiers conducting live firing in western Guyana near an Amerindian reserve and the western border.

In his address to the Parliament on October 13, 2016, President Granger ha referred to that period as the “Troubles” when there was intermix of violence, narco-trade and politically inspired instability. Among the 1,317 murders were those of pro-Black activist and Ronald Waddell, Agriculture Minister, Satyadeow Sawh and his siblings.  “The evidence of the impact of the man-made criminal crisis is still visible. The damage is most manifest in the demoralisation of the public and security services, the erosion of public trust and the lowering of the ‘quality of life’,” he said.

The President had also made veiled reference to then Health Minister Dr. Leslie Ramsammy being named in a New York court as the government minister who had authorized the purchase of geo-locating cellular phone tapping computer.

A device of that nature, a high-powered rifle and hand guns had been found in possession of Shaheed ‘Roger’ Khan and several cohorts by a Guyana Defence Force patrol.

Before Khan had been caught in Suriname months later and sent to New York (via Trinidad) where he was convicted and jailed for cocaine trafficking, he had publicly taken credit for avoiding the PPPC-administration from being toppled.

“The Mother of all Inquiries,” he urged, not realizing he would be eventually held culpable for running a criminally corrupt regime, which pimped out Guyana’s natural resources to foreign pay-to-play interests, gave away Guyana’s fixed and movable assets to personal and political friends and followers, and failed to genuinely reform the security sector because his party needed criminals as ‘bogey men’ to scare Indians into rallying around the PPP.

Let the records show that the true reason the Jagdeo regime rejected the British-funded GY$4b (free money) security sector reform had nothing to do with refusing to allow the British to conduct live ammunition training in the hinterland. The rejection of the offer was based on PPP regime not wanting British police bring stationed alongside local counterparts. That would have exposed the criminal underbelly of both the Police and the PPP regime.

Imagine the irony if not wanting the British to engage in live fire training in the hinterland, but it was okay to allow Roger Khan to engage in Phantom Squad shootings as part of the largest criminal killings in Guyana. No wonder the British were made to bad and Khan is highlyesteemed as some sort of savior.

WHY DIDN’T JAGDEO ASK CARICOM OR THE COMMONWEALTH FOR HELP WHEN THE POLICE APPEARED OVERWHELMED, INSTEAD OF TURNING TO KHAN? THE BIGGEST POLITICAL CON ARTIST SURVIVES TO NOW ATTACK THE COALITION!

Let the fox be revealed EM.. this thing need some closer minimally..The PNC has nothing to hide..it is the closest to reconciliation!

      • Emile_Mervin

We knew of the big bad wolf PNC, but for Jagdeo to make the PPP eclipse the PNC, while enriching himself

        • Col123

I acknowledge the “dog and the bone” (an old recreational activity we played as kids in the 50s) interaction between the PPP and PNC….BUT, the challenge still remains for Pres Granger to expose Jagdeo and hold him culpable for running a criminally corrupt regime and giving away Guyana resources to foreigners and his friends…this is the challenge to Pres Granger and PNC…

Such an inquiry, if done in the right way would benefit the country for we would have to replace every single politician … maybe with martians or little children since finding a guyanese adult not tainted with corruption would be nigh impossible.

This guy jackassdeo really doesn’t know when to keep his mouth shut and to put his pea brain in gear before he put his asinine mouth into drive, he just open a whole can of worms giving the opposition an opening to investigate him and his criminal ppp gang. The US was probably waiting for such an opportunity to divulge the information they gathered from roger slimy khan so they can move against him, we will await the final results of this Mother of inquiries..

Comments here.. and elsewhere are the prime examples from the chattering class, with their useless voices… The ongoing expressed bitterness about the PPP and the PNC are prime examples of the cowardly and “feminine ” reflection of Guyanese life and gossip…it is clear that the politicians are successful at making suckers out of Guyanese…with talk, talk, talk…The so called politicians will continue to ride on the backs of the population as if they are donkeys… because of the hatred and envy that exist among its citizens…

The corrupt, unprofessional DPP should have been removed from office ages ago. She is vicious and vindictive and was responsive to religious and political directives in the PPP’s time. She sheltered a homosexual child rapist and received a plot of land in Pradoville 2. She now engineers weak prosecution to get PPP hacks (no play intended) off the hook. If she had any pride she would walk of her own free will then hang out a shingle and see where it leads. I daresay the PPP will arrange clients for her.
