MMC security guard shot dead by colleague

An MMC Security Guard shot and killed one of his colleagues at the security guard’s service’s headquarters at Happy Acres, East Coast Demerara.

The incident occurred at about 8 O’clock Saturday morning. The victim has been identified as 36-year old Vibert Verwayne of 710 Block 8, Tuschen, East Bank Essequibo.

Police investigators said the incident stemmed from an altercation over the assailant’s daughter. “Initial enquiries revealed that the deceased was in the company of several other employees when the suspect armed with a shotgun, approached in a rage, accusing the deceased and others of making ill remarks about his daughter; in the process, he discharged the shotgun,” the Guyana Police Force said in a statement.

Verwayne sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his neck and was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital.

One other employee received shotgun injuries to his left hand and is receiving medical attention.

Police said the 24-year old male suspect, who is a security guard of MMC Security Service, is in custody as police continue investigation in the fatal shooting of Verwayne.

Initially I thought that they had accused his daughter of having loose morals but if he is twenty four years his daughter would have to be a little girl. Maybe she has challenges. If so, he has now added the challenge of growing fatherless. Making negative or even nasty remarks about someone does not carry the death sentence.

A few weeks ago an early teenager lost his life because he went home and returned with a cutlass after seeing his aunt willingly dancing with a man at a wedding. His killers were rotten people but imagine what kind of big man this youngster would have grown into. There is too much ‘ignorance’ in the country and it all has to do with the way people are raised.
