Even as the General Secretary of the People’s Progressive Party Civic (PPPC), Clement Rohee prepares to summon one of his party’s parliamentarians, Nigel Dharamlall, to discuss an allegation that he threatened to shoot an official of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), his lawyer issued a denial.

“My client unequivocally denies any involvement in any criminal act,” said Attorney-at-Law, Glenn Hanoman in a brief statement.

Police have confirmed that they are investigating a report that Dharamlall some time last week at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara threatened to shoot a man who works at the Guyana office of the hemispheric bank.

Labelling the information already in the public domain “sensational speculations and inaccurate information,” Hanoman urged said he and his client want the “matter to be thoroughly and professionally investigated.”

The Attorney said he has advised Dharamlall not to comment on issue or engage the media so as not to interfere or prejudice this process.

PPPC General Secretary, Rohee intends to ask Dharamlall, a PPP Central Committee member to meet with him on Tuesday to discuss the allegation. “I need to meet with him and talk with him about his version of the story,” Rohee told Demerara Waves Online News.

Police did not say whether Dharamlall had whipped out or brandished the gun or merely uttered threatening words only.

The IDB Representative in Guyana, Sophie Makonnen  has declined to comment on the incident at this time.

Dharamlall is a former Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Amerindian Affairs.
