GEORGETOWN –– The U.S. Embassy, British High Commission and Canadian High Commission congratulate the Guyanese people on the democratic process that we observed in yesterday's local government elections.

We wish to reiterate our strong and considered opinion that the voting and counting processes in the Guyanese local government elections were free, fair, and credible. Our diplomatic observer teams, consisting of some ninety observers spread throughout nine regions, found nothing to question the integrity or credibility of the voting process.

The Guyana Elections Commission has once again done a credible job in ensuring that this critical election day phase of the process was free and fair. We would like to congratulate Chairman Dr. Steve Surujbally, Chief Elections Officer Keith Lowenfield, and the Commissioners and staff of the Guyana Elections Commission for their successful organization of these polls.
