Nagamootoo bashes PPP for walking out Budget debates

Prime Minister Moses Nagamootoo says that the move by the Opposition People’s Progressive Party (PPP) to walk out of the Budget debates on the last day is “political cowardice.”

Just after Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo concluded his presentation on the Budget, PPP members took to their feet and stormed out of the National Assembly in a repeat of what happened last year.

Jagdeo says that unless and until, the Opposition Leader is recognized as the penultimate speaker in the Budget debates the walkouts will continue in future years.

Just before the walkout however, Speaker Barton Scotland questioned the move asking whether the Guyanese public did not deserve an explanation for the move.

But Nagamootoo slated to speak after Jagdeo stated that the move “smacks of political cowardice.”

The Prime Minister was emphatic that the House has “muzzled no one” contrary to allegations by the PPP.

“You can say what you want to say and then like a little brat you pick up your bat and walk out so the games will end but no the games will continue,” Nagamootoo declared.
