Key AFC supporter named GPL Chairman

A strong supporter of the Alliance For Change and businessman Robert Babal has been named  Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Guyana Power and Light (GPL).

Badal, the owner of the Pegasus Hotel in Georgetown, is a known supporter of one of the governing political parties in the coalition and even spoke at election campaign events.

In recent years, Badal also the Chief Executive Officer of Guyana Stockfeeds Inc (GSI) has been one of the voices in the private sector critical of the past People’s Progressive Party Civic-led government.

In particular he was against the Government’s decision to invest in the Guyana Marriott Hotel.

Badal was also a featured speaker at the APNU+AFC coalition Rally in Anna Regina, early 2015. The APNU+AFC launched its campaign at the Pegasus Hotel.

On Wednesday January 20, State Minister Joseph Harmon confirmed that Badal had been named the chairman of the GPL Board.

He also confirmed several other appointments including  Attorney-at-Law, Stephen Fraser as the Chairman of the Cheddi Jagan International Airport Board, Xavier Hussain as Chairman of the Demerara Harbour Brigde Board and Roopnaraine Sukhai as the Chair of the Firearm Licensing Board.
