Crime sleuths were up to Monday searching for two key suspects in the Boxing Night shooting death of a former soldier who had been charged with the murder of two gold dealers in Bartica five years ago.

“Two names would have surfaced within the past 24 hours and very soon we’ll be acting on that information,” Head of the Criminal Investigations Department, Wendell Blanhum told Demerara Waves Online News.

He declined to say whether or not the two suspects were in any way connected to the incident at Bartica. “We are going to look at all the possible motives and we are going to do a thorough investigation so that we can bring the perpetrator to justice,” he said.

Keron Herbert was shot to his stomach, back, buttocks and thigh Saturday night, December 26, 2015 while closing his phone vending stall at the Vendors’ Arcade, Georgetown.

An eyewitness told Demerara Waves Online News that the shooter was of East Indian descent fled the scene in a white Premio.

Herbert had been accused of the murder of Jainarine Raghubar and Ramdeo Deonarine between September 4 and 5, 2010. The killing of the two men, according to investigators, was in the furtherance of the theft of 100 ounces of raw gold, cash, GYD$25 million cash, jewellery, one diamond worth GYD$15 million and two guns.
