Guyanese anti-drug agents coincidentally found a forged Barbados passport in the possession of a taxi driver who had hoped to travel to Canada without applying for a visa.

Unlike nationals of Barbados and several Eastern Caribbean countries, Guyanese must acquire a visa before travelling to that North American country.

But 39-year old taxi driver, Rohit Singh, of Lusignan, East Coast Demerara had hoped to bypass that requirement by obtaining a forged Barbados passport number R159966 issued to Addey Singh.

He pleaded guilty to the offence and was fined GYD$30,000 (approximately US$150.00) by Chief Magistrate, Ann Mc Lennan.

The prosecutor told the court that Rohit Singh meta  Barbadian earlier this year who told him that he could facilitate his entry to Canada visa free on a Barbados passport.

Customs Anti-Narcotics Unit (CANU) agents arrested Rohit Singh and handed him over to police after finding the Barbados passport.  At the time, the anti-narcotics agents had been conducting another investigation.
