Former footballer accused of shooting at policemen

A former Western Tigers footballer was Tuesday remanded to prison after he pleaded not guilty to allegedly shooting at two policemen.

Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan remanded 41 year old Owen ‘Solo’ Pedro of 61 West Ruimveldt, Georgetown to prison until January 12, 2015.

He is accused of shooting at police constables Gordon Smith and Owen Holder on December 4, 2015 with intent to maim , disable, disfigure or cause grievous bodily harm to them.

He is also accused of discharging a loaded firearm at Ryan Spencer on the same date.

The offences were allegedly committed at West Ruimveldt, Georgetown.

Police Prosecutor, Deniro Jones told the court that police responded to a report that Pedro was threatening Spencer. When police arrived on the scene, Jones said Pedro opened fire at them with an unlicensed gun.

Although the policemen returned fire and summoned more lawmen, but he fled the scene.Pedro was arrested two days later and charged.
