Football coach on ganja charge remanded till next year

A football coach was Wednesday arraigned for allegedly being in possession of 21 grammes of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

Coach Colin John of Agricola Red Triangle team was refused bail and remanded to prison until January 16, 2016 when he will make his next court appearance.

John of 183 BB Eccles, East Bank Demerara is accused of being in possession of the narcotic on November 29, 2015 at Mc Doom, East Bank Demerara.

Defence Counsel, Clyde Forde failed in his bid to have his client , who is a father of two, granted reasonable bail by Chief Magistrate Ann Mc Lennan. The Chief Magistrate said no special reason was provided to justify the granting of bail.

Forde  told the court that someone had moments before the police stopped and searched his car disembarked the vehicle.

Police Prosecutor, Deniro Jones objected to bail on the grounds of the gravity and seriousness of the offence. He related to the court that police found 11 transparent zip-lock bags with leaves, seeds and stems.
