A man was Tuesday convicted for stealing former Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand’s IPhone.

Appearing before City Magistrate, Fabayo Azore, 20-year old Daniel Wilson of 282 South Sophia, Georgetown pleaded guilty to committing the offence at Rosemary Lane, South Cummingsburg, Georgetown. He admitted to committing the offence on November 22, 2015.

He was fined GYD$50,000 or an alternative of three months imprisonment. Reacting, he man who told the court he is a vegetable vendor begged for “mercy. “Is now I catching back myself! I pick up Aunty Priya phone. I’m very sorry Aunty Priya I am asking for mercy.”

The court was told that Manickchand left her phone in her vehicle and went with others to distribute  food in the depressed western Georgetown community..

Wilson fled the area after the former minister raised an alarm. He was later arrested and charged after a report was made at the Brickdam Police Station.
