Men allegedly caught in hotel with cocaine refused bail

Two men, one of whom was caught swallowing cocaine pellets at a hotel, were Tuesday remanded to prison on a charge of conspiring to traffick in cocaine.

They are 44-year old taxi driver, Hubert Smith of 3464 North Ruimveldt, Georgetown carpenter, Dwayne Adams of 38 William Street, Golden Grove.

They were refused bail and ordered to return to court on December 7, 2015.

Appearing before City Magistrate, Ann Mc Lennan, they pleaded not guilty to the charge which states that on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Alpha Hotel, Ogle, East Coast Demeraea, they conspired to traffick in 848 grammes of cocaine.

Defence Lawyer, Peter Hugh said Smith had nothing to do with the illegal substance and that Adams had already admitted in a caution statement that he knew of the illicit substance.

Police prosecutor Bharat Mangru told the court that both accused men have given investigators a caution statement.

Adam, in his statement, the court was told accepted that he swallowed 27 pellets.
