Immigration officer charged with fraud

An Immigration Officer, who was accused of changing an immigration entry in the computerized management system, was Friday granted GUY$100,000 bail

Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan granted GUY$100,000 bail to police officer, 30-year old Yonnick Smith of 457 Block 8, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara.

He is to return to court on December 14, 2015.

He pleaded not guilty to the offence which is that on Sunday, May 17, 2015 at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport (CJIA) while being employed in the capacity of a clerk or servant by the Guyana Police Force’s Immigration Department, with intent to defraud he made a wrong entry in the border management system.

Smith, who has been a policeman for the past eight years, had been transferred to the Tactical Services Unit pending the outcome of an investigation into the allegation.
