Former President, Bharrat Jagdeo

Former Presidential Advisor on Governance has affirmed that the People’s Progressive Party will win Guyana’s next General and Regional Elections, but the Party has not decided who will lead it into the next polls.

Currently, Bharrat Jagdeo, a two term President serves as Opposition Leader and currently has the doors open for him to regain presidency.

This is due to a recent ruling by Chief Justice Ian Chang that nullified amendments made to the constitution restricting a President from serving for more than two terms.

Teixiera told Demerara Waves that the Party has not made a decision on who will lead it into the elections now will that decision be made any time soon.

“That is a matter for the PPP to decide and we are not going to decide that now,” she stated when asked whether Jagdeo could return given his popularity.

The PPP Chief Whip said that that the APNU+AFC Government has already made several fatal missteps hence it is not really a question of who will lead the PPP into the next elections, but the fact remains that the Party will emerge victorious.

“PPP will win next elections it is the only Party that can run this government,” Teixeira affirmed.

In a recent interview with Stabroek News, ex-President Donald Ramotar had stated that no person deserves to be President more than twice.

Ramotar, in that article, is quoted as saying “I think with two terms it’s enough for any president.”
