Johnny Welshman charged with obtaining money by false pretense

Johnny Welshman leaving the Georgetown Club several months ago after he had been told that he could not have attended a workshop for lawyers.

Johnny Welshman, a controversial figure who had accused a prominent lawyer and politician of sexually abusing him as a teenager, was Tuesday arraigned on a charge of obtaining money by falsely pretending to be a lawyer.

Appearing before Chief Magistrate, Ann Mc Lennan, he was placed on GUY$25,000 bail after pleading not guilty to the charge.

He is to return to court on December 29, 2015.

The prosecution’s facts are that on October 21, 2015 23-year old Welshman, also known as Johnny William-Luchart, obtained GUY$40,000 from Alicia Fernandes by pretending to be a lawyer known same to be false.

Welshman, of 2519 Layou Street, North Ruimveldt, allegedly told Fernandes that he could have represented her in a case linked to the custody of her children by her mother.

The court heard that Fernandes had allegedly had several issues with the Child Welfare Officers who had advised her to seek the services of a lawyer to regain custody of her children.
