Man who allegedly trailed arriving passengers from CJI Airport shot

A suspected bandit, who was trailing a number of persons from the Cheddi Jagan International Airport shortly after they arrived in Guyana,  has been shot by police and a gun found in the car he was travelling.

He has been identified as 37-year old Shawn Thomas of South Ruimveldt Park, Georgetown. He sustained a gunshot injury to his left foot, police said.

Another occupant of the car escaped during an exchange of gunfire with police. Thomas was admitted to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation where he is under guard.

Police said that at about 11 O’clock, Wednesday night, October 7, 2015, police ranks confronted the occupants of a motor vehicle at Barr Street, Kitty, Georgetown.

One of the ranks had sought assistance after he suspected that he was being trailed by the motor vehicle from the airport, where he had collected some relatives.

Investigators said an unlicensed .38 revolver with 3 live rounds and two spent shells has been recovered and the motor vehicle seized by the police.
